Job Description

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor in Environmental Data Science to be held jointly at the Asian School of the Environment (ASE) and the College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS). The candidate should utilize innovative data science methods to tackle significant environmental challenges and enhance understanding of natural systems, focusing on areas such as:

  • Environmental geochemistry
  • Geophysics and natural hazards
  • Atmosphere, oceans, and climate science
  • Remote sensing
  • Ecological modeling
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Geospatial analysis

The successful applicant will lead impactful research at the nexus of environmental and Earth system science with data science, employing novel methodologies like AI, machine learning, and data analytics to analyze complex datasets and generate actionable insights.

Responsibilities

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in environment and Earth system science, data science, and related fields, using innovative teaching methods and practical data science applications. Responsibilities also include supervising graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, providing mentorship in research design and professional development.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in Earth system science, Environmental science, Computer science, Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, or a related field. They should demonstrate expertise in AI, machine learning, and data science with a strong publication record and external funding. Experience with data science applications in environmental or Earth science challenges, including remote sensing and climate modeling, is desirable.

ASE and CCDS are interdisciplinary units that combine geoscience, environment, ecology, and computational sciences to address environmental challenges in Asia and worldwide. Researchers will have access to national computing resources such as the National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore and may collaborate with AI Singapore.
