Jakarta, Indonesia (28 May 2025) – In a strategic move towards decarbonizing transportation and accelerating clean energy adoption in Southeast Asia, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MGH Energy, a French-based low-carbon technology company. The collaboration focuses on the development of hydrogen-derived fuels, such as e-fuels, ammonia, and e-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (eSAF).
The signing took place during the France-Indonesia Business Forum in Jakarta, coinciding with the official visit of President Emmanuel Macron to Indonesia. This momentous event underscores growing bilateral efforts to forge stronger industrial and climate partnerships between France and Indonesia.
This partnership aims to jointly explore and commercialize next-generation fuels that will play a pivotal role in achieving Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target by 2060. The project is expected to create a blueprint for the development of green hydrogen value chains across Southeast Asia, while leveraging both countries’ technological and policy capabilities.
Energy Academy Indonesia (ECADIN) is proud to have supported this partnership, from the inception. The initiative was also made possible with the continued backing from France Hydrogène, MEDEF International, and the Embassy of Indonesia in Paris.
This MoU highlights the momentum building behind green hydrogen and e-fuel technologies as viable alternatives to fossil fuels in aviation, maritime, and heavy-duty transport. As countries intensify their climate action strategies, international alliances such as this are critical for scaling up decarbonization solutions and fostering cross-border innovation.
