What The Role Is
Scientist (Centre for Urban Sustainability)
What You Will Be Working On
We are looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented candidate to take on the position of Scientist to initiate novel and ground-breaking research in advanced materials for the built environment. The areas of research include and are not limited to:
- 3D printable green cementitious composites
- Sustainable and strategic building materials from recycled materials
- Carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in advanced low-carbon building materials.
Responsibilities
- Perform applied research and development (R&D) work in the area of material synthesis, characterization and evaluation.
- Apply scientific principles in laboratory experiments, tests; undertake data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control and protocol compliance.
- Work closely with team lead and members to apply good engineering practices; develop industry-leading technologies to ensure project deliverables are dutifully achieved.
- Assist in conducting workshops, seminars, and events involving internal parties as well as external parties such as small and medium-sized enterprises, aligned with required project deliverables and key performance indicators.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to conceptualise, design and prepare strategic research proposals within CUS’ focus area for national and/or industrial grant applications.
- Perform administrative and procurement job-related duties as assigned.
- Co-supervise and support students working on industry, community and and/or consultancy projects.
What We Are Looking For
- Qualification in Materials Science, Chemical, Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines.
- 3 or more years of working experience in Science, Engineering or discipline related to technology management.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication and consensus-building skills across different disciplines, cultures and organisational levels.
- Proven track record and capability in development, management and successful completion of projects within stipulated timelines.
- Ability to work in a team to meet tight schedules.
- Possess passion and genuine interest in sustainable material development and additive manufacturing technologies (e.g. 3D printing by gantry printer, automation & robotic arms).
- Good command of English Language; strong interpersonal, written and communication skills; confident in collaborative works with industry partner.
- Demonstrate good problem-solving, evaluative and judgment skills based on sound analysis and application of technical knowledge and skills through gained experience.
