Position Description:
We are seeking an experienced Hydrocarbon Flow Measurement Specialist to join Process Automation Systems Engineering Division. This role demands advanced technical expertise in flow measurement systems, regulatory compliance, professional advice and guidance on operational processes, their optimization, measurement facility design and solutions to all aspects of liquid & gas custody transfer measurement problems.
The ideal candidate will have +15 years of experience in hydrocarbon flow measurement, with proven track record in custody transfer applications. In addition to hydrocarbon measurement, the candidate should possess knowledge of non-hydrocarbon flow measurement commodities, including hydrogen (H₂), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and various chemical fluids.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will develop/maintain Saudi Aramco engineering standards, procedures, general instructions, and best custody measurement transfer measurement practices and determine potential problems and remedies to complex technical problems.
- Introduce new technologies from all over the world to help the company achieve/maintain the best-in-class position in the oil and gas industry.
- Perform technical audits of Saudi Aramco liquid & gas measurement facilities and provide input on improvements. Work within a task force on measurement discrepancies, measurement systems evaluation for resolving measurement issues.
- Provide technical input on custody transfer measurement projects to Project Management organization, operating organizations, vendors, manufacturers and design firms, etc.
- Conduct seminars and technical exchange meetings, attend conferences, write papers and develop training programs
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Instrumentation Engineering, or related degree from an accredited university.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Professional Engineer (P.E.) or a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) license registration would be desirable but not essential.
Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in hydrocarbon flow measurement, including at least 10 years focused on custody transfer applications for both gas and liquid, including metering system design and development, detailed knowledge of the characteristics of the system compounds of primary and secondary sensors, flow computer metering supervisory systems, etc.
- Must have knowledge of custody measurement, sampling systems, flow computers, flow calculation, meter calibration, proven calibration and master meter calibration.
- Must be recognized as a proven expert within the industry and professional societies and industrial organizations.
- Extensive experience in multinational oil & gas companies or large-scale EPC projects desired
- Experience in hydrocarbon allocation, loss control, and advanced data reconciliation desired
Communications Skills:
- Must have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and be willing to transfer implicit knowledge to specialists and engineers in the field.
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of flow measurement technologies (ultrasonic, Coriolis, turbine, differential pressure flow meters).
- Strong understanding of API, AGA, ISO standards related to custody transfer.
- Proficiency in flow computers, SCADA systems, PLCs, and data analysis tools.
Professional Membership:
- Membership in relevant professional organizations such as:
- Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)
- International Society of Automation (ISA)
- American Gas Association (AGA)
- American Petroleum Institute (API)
Certifications:
- API Certified Measurement Professional (CMP)
- AGA Certified Measurement Technician
- Certified Flow Measurement Specialist
- Additional certifications in instrumentation, metrology, or quality assurance are a plus.
Publications (good to have):
- Authorship or co-authorship of technical papers, articles, or case studies related to hydrocarbon flow measurement, custody transfer systems, or measurement uncertainty analysis published in recognized industry journals or conferences.
