On December 12, 2024, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) formalized a groundbreaking Cooperation Arrangement to accelerate the transition to green energy across Southeast Asia. This collaboration, signed by Acting Executive Director of ACE Beni Suryadi and Australian Ambassador to ASEAN Tiffany McDonald, unlocks funding for clean energy initiatives and reinforces shared commitments to energy security, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability.
The agreement is part of a $6.9 million ASEAN–Australia Energy Cooperation Program, aiming to bolster renewable energy adoption, enhance regional energy connectivity, and support the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiative. With this partnership, nine priority projects will advance sustainable energy solutions, including the creation of the 9th ASEAN Energy Outlook. “This collaboration plays a pivotal role in fostering greater energy resilience and addressing climate challenges,” stated Suryadi.
This initiative aligns with ASEAN’s Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) and Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040. The program emphasizes capacity-building workshops, collaborative research, and inclusive energy planning to empower ASEAN nations in their journey toward a cleaner, greener energy future.
